If you have a shore power connection on your boat, it's necessary to keep it working properly so you can easily start your boat and operate various onboard accessories like the bilge pump, navigation accessories and lights. It is an external power source for all of these functions, and if you need to replace the power connector that leads from your boat to your power station pedestal on the dock, make sure you're replacing it with a compatible cord.
Unplug your old shore power connector from the dock power pedestal, after opening the pedestal's front door.
Unplug the other end of the connector from your boat's power cord adapter. Sometimes there are two connectors on larger boats.
Open the front door on the shore power pedestal and plug in your new shore power connector to the proper amperage outlet. Use an adaptor if plugging in a 30-amp cable to a 50-amp outlet, or vice-versa.
Plug the other end of the new power cord to your boat's power adapter, usually located near the battery and engine at the rear of the boat. You can access this adapter by unscrewing and lifting its lid.
Let your boat battery(ies) recharge to test the connection.
