THE Augusta-Margaret River Shire has put in Closed Circuit tv (CCTV) cameras and floodlights within the Margaret River city sq. in an exceedingly bid to spice up public safety.
The installation was in response to requests from the Margaret River Police, the city sq. Strata Company and house owners of companies within the precinct who were involved concerning the late night, delinquent behaviour within the space.
Shire president Ray Colyer said the equipment, purchased with a grant from workplace of Crime Prevention, can act as a deterrent to would-be criminals and assist in identifying offenders.
The shire has vested day to day operation of the cameras to the Margaret River Police. “The new CCTV system could be a we have a tendency tolcome addition to the CCTV Tools we use when addressing criminal and anti-social behaviour,” Margaret River sergeant Paul Daly said.
He said the cameras already proved valuable when an individual was rendered unconscious when being king hit in February. “By reviewing footage we have a tendency to were able to establish the offender and charge him with assault occasioning bodily hurt,” he said.
The installations are an outcome of the shire’s Community Safety and Crime Prevention arrange.
